Food For the Soul

I don't know about you, but I am always on the lookout for things that feed my soul. Some time ago I was led to the writings of Abbot Joseph. His blog, Word Incarnate, is a beautiful series of meditations that do feed the soul.
Spiritual reading is an important part of the interior life. Read any of the saints as well as the Church Fathers and you will hear them say that over and over again.
Our lives can be so busy, but as my late pastor used to tell us, "If you are too busy to pray, you are too busy." Spiritual reading doesn't have to take huge amounts of time; a few minutes each day will do. These little spiritual gems only take a few minutes to read and they always give some food for thought.
When I came back to the Church, a good friend told me that it is important to have a "formula" for your spiritual life. That formula is different for each person. My own personal formula consists of daily Mass, Eucharistic Adoration twice a week, morning and evening prayer using Magnificat, and some type of short spiritual reading (I like to do this before bedtime).
what I use for spiritual reading varies. Two of the "biggies" I use are Divine Intimacy by the Carmelite priest, Fr. Gabriel of St. Mary Magdalen and In Conversation with God by Fr. Francis Fernandez-Carvajal. (a dear friend blessed me with entire series of this one for my birthday a few years ago.)
For a small daily dose of good spiritual reading and meditation, please visit Abbot Joseph's site. You can read a short biography of him once you reach his site. (Click on Word Incarnate at the beginning of this post to reach Abbot Joseph's site)
Happy and blessed reading!

Dearest Karinann,
God richly bless you!
Post- good food for thought.

I really enjoy the Book of Proverbs.
Since it has 31 short chapters, I like reading this for a devotional. It's the 23rd day of the month...I'd read the 23rd chapter of Proverbs. This is an easy formula for me.
So very glad I do know how to read.
Blessings

I've heard many good things about both those books you mentioned! I'm going to have to add those to my list to get!
